Anna's Adoption Resources
I have found that there are a lot of adoption resources here on the net. When we started the adoption process of our daughter, Daria, this is where we started. We found her picture at the beginning of June 1996 on the Precious In His Sight photolistings and on September 1, 1996, only 3 months later, we were on a plane headed for Russia to adopt our little girl. Upon meeting Daria for the first time, we were told that she had a brother. To make a very long and complicated story short, we stayed an extra week and broke all adoption records adopting him also. Evan was 11 1/2 at the time of adoption and Daria had just turned 7. We have two really wonderful kids and are so very fortunate that we found them. After 4 years and 6 failed attempts at adoption, our dreams were finally realized with these 2.
The purpose of this page is to help others who are in the beginning stages of International Adoption by answering some of the questions that you may have. The adoption process can be long and stressful, but at the end of the road is the rainbow and we traveled all the way around the world and back again to find that rainbow. "All the way around the world and back again". That's what I tell my children when they ask how much I love them. That really does say it all!

TRAVEL TIPS
I have gotten many many e-mails from adoptive parents who are getting ready to travel to adopt their child/children and they always ask me the same questions: "What should I take?" "What shouldn't I take?" "What should I take for gifts?" Well! I have the answers! These answers really pertain more to Russia/Eastern Europe than any other country, but if you are traveling to Asia or elsewhere, you may be able to use them, too.If any of you have anything to add, please let me know!
GIFTS
Gifts are a really important part of the adoption process. I am always asked, "What's the deal with the gifts? Are they *really* that important?" I always answer, "Yes!"
The giving of gifts is an appropriate way to tell the people who have assisted with your adoption, thank you. Most of the people who make your adoption happen are not financially compensated but, as we can attest to, they really do move mountains to help you adopt your child. Your agency will probably give you a detailed list of suggested gift items for the "key players" in your adoption, but I do have some suggestions for people that you make come in contact with who do something special to help you, your homestay family and anyone else who may not be on "the gift list". We found that the most simple gifts were often the most appreciated since they are not readily available and are sometimes very expensive.
